Wills

People do not like thinking about death and the effect that it has on those left behind.

This is one reason why a recent survey suggests that as few as one in three adults in the UK currently hold a valid Will.

Our charges for making a will start at £150 + VAT for a single person and £250 + VAT for a couple (with an additional charge of £60 + VAT if a home visit is required, plus travel expenses at 0.45p per mile).

Our charge for making a notice of severance of joint tenancy is £60 + VAT.

There are lots of reasons that people give for not having made a Will:

  • It’s too expensive
  • I haven’t got time
  • I don’t have enough property to give to make it worthwhile
  • I don’t have any family that I want to leave it to
  • I don’t want to tempt fate

However, there are even more reasons why you should make a Will:

  • To ensure that your money and personal items pass to your loved ones
  • To ensure that your assets don’t pass to the Crown
  • To pass assets to unmarried partners
  • To appoint guardians for your infant children
  • To donate money to charity
  • To protect assets during a divorce
  • To plan for Inheritance Tax
  • To protect assets from being used for Care Home fees by the use of a Life Interest Will Trust
  • To set out your funeral wishes
  • To provide for disabled relatives in a way that protects their benefits
  • Simply for your peace of mind
